Discretionary payment (per night)
A discretionary payment of £30 per night may be made to recognise the additional intervention and support provided by a carer beyond that ordinarily expected within a Shared Lives arrangement, particularly where this contributes to sustaining long-term arrangements for individuals with complex needs who might otherwise require residential care.
The arrangement will be subject to review every 12-weeks to ensure that the placement remains safe and sustainable for both the carer and the cared-for person.
Impact on carers
Under the proposed changes, 27 of the 54 Shared Lives carers would see a reduction in income, while 27 would see an increase.
